History
The Limousin Genetics Bull Sale is an evolution from the well-established BJF Limousin Invitational Bull Sale following the dispersal of the BJF Limousin Herd.
The Inviational Bull Sale commenced in 2017 when Bradley and Jodie Frohloff of BJF Limousin, Yarraman, QLD, along with a group of like-minded Limousin breeders, set about developing an on-property Limousin Bull Sale.
Current vendors Peter and Pauline Grant, The Downfall Limousin, Wilsons Downfall via Stanthorpe, QLD, Dustin Dowrick, Four Mile Limousin, Caffey, QLD, and Simon and Kerry McCarthy, Lochinvar Limousin, Mt Molar, QLD, were among the original vendors and have consigned bulls every year.
Mick and Sandy O’Sullivan, O’Sullivans Black Limousin, Lower Mount Walker, QLD, and David and Samantha Silcock, Storm King Limousin, Mutdapilly, QLD, joined the sale group in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
All vendors are committed to breeding a modern Limousin type, providing customers with as much information as possible to support their selection decisions, and backing the performance of their genetics.
Vendors
BJF Limousin – Bradley & Jodie Frohloff, Yarraman, QLD
BJF Limousin was established in 2006 following a search for the preferred type of animal for the Frohloff family’s butcher shop, Frohlies Meats, Yarraman, QLD.
Established on a selection of core cow families, further key cow families were added over the 20-year progression of the seedstock herd. A range of modern Limousin sires, sourced from both Canada and Australia, shapes the BJF type.
The BJF Female herd was dispersed in February 2026, allowing the family to focus on other business ventures. The 2026 Limousin Genetics Bull Sale will include the final draft of BJF Limousin Bulls.
The Downfall Limousin – Peter & Pauline Grant, Wilsons Downfall via Stanthorpe, QLD
The Grant family introduced Limousin genetics to their mixed breed commercial herd in the early 2000’s in the search for an increase in yield and in particular high value cuts. The benefits of Limousin genetics were immediately evident through returns in the sale yards. Recognising the opportunity to further advance the production of high-value, quality eating beef, they established The Downfall Limousin stud in 2008. As Limousin seedstock producers, they are constantly searching for contemporary genetics that will suit Australian conditions and add value to Australian beef production systems.
The use of Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and mating predictors for sire selection and matching of sires and females increased the likelihood of producing animals that have the genetic potential to deliver the desired progeny. Physical assessment of the structure of potential sires and females has been paramount in ensuring genetic potential can be delivered over a long period and be passed on to their progeny.
The Downfall Limousins produces all polled calves, with the majority being homozygous polled. All calves will be BreedPlan recorded, DNA tested, parent verified and tested for poll and coat colour status, and to ensure they carry the F94L Limousin advantage gene.
Four Mile Limousin – Dustin Dowrick, Caffey, QLD
Established in 2003 at Charleville, Four Mile Limousin is a Queensland-based stud breeding operation known for producing quality Limousin cattle, currently located in the Lockyer Valley south of Gatton.
They focus on breeding functional, high-performance modern Limousin genetics that balance physical softness with strong data-backed performance.
Lochinvar Limousin – Simon & Kerry McCarthy, Mt Molar, QLD
Located at Mt Molar, QLD (South of Toowoomba in the Darling Downs Region) Kerry and Simon established their Lochinvar Limousin stud in 2004 with heifers from Red Rock and Tramahler Limousin studs.
The McCarthy family’s stud focused on docility alongside high-performance Limousin genetics, including balance in carcase quality, maternal strength and calving ease and
resilient bulls and breeders, which are sought out qualities across both commercial herds and Limousin studs.
Lochinvar started with a foundation base of traditional French Pure bloodlines, later breeding into the Pure line for Australian conditions. Poll and black genetics were then incorporated into the stud to account for the evolving modern customer market.
OSullivans Black Limousin – Mick & Sandy O’Sullivan, Lower Mount Walker, QLD
The O’Sullivan family specialise in breeding black polled Limousin cattle; their primary goal is to produce commercially relevant seedstock that balance growth and performance, with carcase quality and easy-care maternal traits.
OSullivans Black Limousin was established in 2007, using foundation genetics from the renowned Kensal herd, which had operated under Mick O’Sullivan’s management for over 15 years, including top cow families like the Pearl, Moonbeam, and Fancy lines.
Having bred Limousin cattle for over 30 years, the O’Sullivan family have a clear focus on docility, carcase excellence, maternal strength, and structural soundness.
Storm King Limousin – David & Samantha Silcock, Mutdapilly, QLD
The Silcock family commenced the Storm King Limousin program in 2009. David and Samantha recognised the benefits of the Limousin breed and commenced sourcing Limousin genetics, with an emphasis on carcass quality, yield, and temperament.
Storm King focuses on producing high-performance cattle that deliver results. Storm King works closely with other leading breeders to improve the Limousin breed in Australia, partnering with BJF Limousin and The Downfall Limousin in the Limousin Genetics Australia group.
